Regardless of myopia and hyperopia, but usually in combination with them, a large percentage of the normal population has astigmatism. Although there is no known cause for astigmatism, heredity and problems during embryogenesis are known factors. There are two types of astigmatism: the regular one that is corrected with glasses and the irregular.
